Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of?

This is an interesting one as it is not so much related to playing music but rather the marketing and promotional side. These days DJ-ing is not just about mixing (although I wish it was!) there is a lot of extra work required learning about social media, marketing and design. Recently, I created a new logo for my brand and developed a new marketing approach which I'm quite excited about! However, I am still learning and it's only early days but, I feel like I'm on the right track.

What’s the biggest misconception about DJing?

That anyone can do it! DJ-ing is an art and it takes time to learn and understand how all of the elements work and gel together. I think to succeed you need to love it so much that every time you feel like quitting, you don't because it's worse not doing it at all than feeling like you could be doing it better!

How would you describe your style?

Totally addicted to Bass! My tastes tend to gravitate towards music with heavy basslines. I also like a lot of variation in tracks, whether it be through verse and chorus changes or interesting melodies and synths.

What type of music do you usually DJ?

House and Techno, but I'll often use tracks from other genres if the components match or gel together in some way.

Analog or digital and why?

Both! I'm only new to production but, I think both have their strengths and challenges! I think it is important for producers to understand, and be able to transfer skills between both approaches.

What do you like most about DJing?

The music!! It's always about the music!

How long have you been DJing?

Seriously, just over 12 months. Before this I dabbled about mixing from time to time.

What’s your typical work process?

Find the music, put together the set list, decide on the track order, keeping in mind where I am trying to go in the mix. Then play it!

Tell us about your studio setup.

Decks: 2xCDJs, a mixer and midi keyboard so far!

Can you share one DJ tip?

Don't ever give up!! Sure, take a minute, but don't ever give up!

What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

OMG!! Sooo many, for so many different reasons! But, the ones who stand out the most, don't just create/play amazing music, they have no ego around it and are just themselves loving what they do.

ARTIST BIO Best known for high energy sets packed with filthy, driving basslines, distinctive, enduring melodies & edgy, avant-garde synths.

Although House & Techno rule Jax's musical tastes, her sets frequently include a range of genres. Relentlessly driven by her passion to explore and push the boundaries of traditional genre, particularly compositional deviations and overlaps, her track selections often match components such as basslines, synths, and instruments rather than aligning genre type. Every set is crafted with a sharp focus on direction, tension, and build. Each track purposefully chosen and placed, meticulously weaving together a well-structured musical journey effectively frame-worked within the scope of House and Techno.
